Google Trends the Easy Way

Yesterday, the Google Webmaster Central Blog carried the news of an addition to Google Trends: Trends for Websites. With this tool, you can see the relative amount of traffic tracked to one or more websites, and slice the data by location and time. While this is likely no more accurate than any of the other comparative traffic measures out there, it can give you some sense of whether a particular site’s audience is growing or declining. The list of “also visited” domains is also useful, giving you a quick pointer to sites you might like to jump to if the current site appeals to you.
Now Micro Persuasion’s Steve Rubel has made it even easier to use Google Trends with the release of a bookmarklet that you can use to get there. Just drag the link from his blog entry to your browser toolbar, and a single click will show you the trends information for the site that you’re on. If you’re stats-minded, it’s useful enough to keep handy.

Nice utility. Thanks for the “Bookmarklet”. The only problem I have with “trends” are the hot tag content scrappers who intercept the reports to sell advertising. My guess is Goggle knows about this and are not happy.

A lot of the sites I visit are small enough that they don’t show up on the Trends radar (including mine)…. but Google Trends is still fun if you want to pass time, for instance it told me that Sex is more important than food :)
